Heather Skutnik-Sheffield

Counselor, LMHC (she, her)

Making the decision to begin therapy takes courage. Perhaps you are looking to gain perspective, find tools to help cope with anxiety, explore your thought patterns, or delve into personal topics that have been weighing you down. The goal is to emerge with confidence, strength, and perspective in order to handle what challenges may come your way.

I have been working with children, preteens, teens, and adults in individual and family settings for 10 years. My approach to therapy is trauma informed, strengths-based, and person-centered. In my practice, I strive to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and in control of the path you'd like to take in your healing journey.

My thoughts on Therapy

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy can help in a number of ways. It is a tool to process and reflect, so that you can take data and apply it back into your life to find different results that ideally lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling way of living.

My View on Psychotherapy

I believe that psychotherapy is a unique chance to audition the thoughts, ideas, and experiences that maybe you've never spoken aloud, but are taking up space in your mind or are cycling through familiar and ungratifying patterns. Psychotherapy can give you a chance to explore and question in a safe space; perhaps even help you understand the "why" of some of the things that never feel quite resolved, so that you can feel empowered to move on to a more calm, purposeful, and intentional way of being.

What I Love About Being a Therapist

To hear your story- whether it be struggles, or achievements, is so incredible. To recognize that you'd like to devote time in your busy life to explore your thought patterns, and work through stress and trauma is admirable. I am honored to be a part of your journey.
