CHARLENE FLYNN

Counselor, LMHC (she, her)

In addition to entering private practice with Leek Therapy, my clinical work in community mental health focuses on complex trauma and social justice. Working in non-profit organizations, correctional settings, and in the community, I developed a relational therapeutic approach that values trauma-informed and culturally responsive interventions.

My work with adolescents, young adults, and families is grounded in the belief that all individuals deserve access to mental health care that feels safe, collaborative, and inclusive.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and I received a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Trauma Studies Specialization as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University. I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), DBT-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE), and Psychological First Aid.

My hope is that, through authentic relationship, empowerment and a compassionately curious approach, individuals feel encouraged to fully participate in the treatment process they are seeking.

My Thoughts on Therapy

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Identity Exploration and Affirmation, Addressing Minority Stress and Discrimination, Support with Relationships and Social Dynamics, Managing Mental Health Conditions, Trauma Recovery, & Empowerment and Advocacy

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

The purpose of psychotherapy is to listen, understand, be empathic and be supportive. It is NOT to provide direct advice, but rather to allow my clients a safe space to explore and navigate their own feelings.

What I Love About Being a Therapist

I love being able to work with clients and explore with them the reasons that they came into therapy. I feel like I get to learn so much every day and I am always growing and expanding my knowledge base with the clients that I work with.
