Counselor, Pre- LMHC (he, him)
Nathaniel has an MA in Counseling Psychology with a Focus on Trauma from Fisher College. He has worked as a school counselor and in school-supported spaces, as well as with adults in a private practice setting. He takes a warm, humanistic approach to therapy while remaining focused on meaningful, goal-oriented progress. Drawing from evidence-based practices like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and solution-focused techniques, he tailors each session to meet the unique needs and strengths of the individual.
Nathaniel specializes in working with high-functioning neurodivergent individuals (and lives that existence himself), aging and chronically ill populations, and those navigating anxiety, mood disorders, grief, trauma, life transitions, and end-of-life concerns. He also supports clients working through family dynamics, self-esteem, school issues, and stress management. He values flexibility and collaboration in therapy, often incorporating experiential tools and creative strategies to make the process both personal and practical while helping clients explore meaning, identity, and inner conflict in a supportive space. Above all, he believes in meeting clients where they are—with empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for their lived experience.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
Living with ADHD has shaped the way I understand time, motivation, relationships, and self-worth. It’s impacted my marriage, friendships, and how I’ve had (and continue to have to) to navigate everyday responsibilities—and it’s taught me a lot about grace, communication, and adaptation. I also carry the experience of surviving anorexia, and I see clearly how these struggles connect to the way my brain processes the world. These parts of my story have deepened my empathy and helped me sit with others in their own “exile” moments, as Camus would say.
I don’t see my healing as a finished product—it’s ongoing, and that keeps me grounded and real with my clients. I’ve learned how important structure, movement, and intentional self-care are for staying balanced, which is part of why I run marathons (ADHD management for sure) and embrace routines that support my mental health.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
To me, the purpose of psychotherapy isn’t to chase constant happiness or to eliminate suffering—it’s to help people understand themselves more deeply and build the tools they need to navigate life’s inherent challenges. I do believe in diagnoses and the realities of neurotransmitters, the blood brain barrier, and the physical realities that lead to those diagnoses. That said, regardless of mental health diagnosis, I think all humans need to engage in this journey on some level throughout their life. I approach therapy with a deep appreciation for biology and anatomy, grounded in the understanding that we are evolutionary beings. Our brains and bodies have developed to help us survive, not necessarily to thrive in the modern world as it exists today—with its complexities, inequalities, and constant demands.
I believe psychotherapy is a space to explore that tension: between our evolutionary wiring and our lived, conscious experience.
What I Love About Being a Therapist
I love being a therapist and working in the humanities in general because it allows me to hold space for people as they navigate the complexity of being human. I really feel I take and experience so much alongside my clients, and I could not ask for a more rewarding job that way. Because of impulse control, ADHD or whatever I've also lived a lot of life in my 33 years, and using that experience alongside an already existing, deep appreciation for both biology and existential truth, I’m drawn to the intersection of how we’re wired to survive and how we search for meaning. I think a lot of people get stuck in the idea that therapy will "fix" them, but to me therapy isn’t about chasing constant happiness—it’s about helping people understand themselves, build tools, and find peace within the realities of life. This is especially relevant as realities of life change and I always hope our time together helps them navigate not just in the present, but as they move to other stages of life as well.
